Republic of Apples, Democracy of Orangesedited by Frank Stewart, Ming Di, and Tony Barnstone—will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 7, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Wardman Library.

This is a group reading of California writers—including Whittier students and professors—whose work is included in the summer 2019 volume of the literary magazine Mānoa. This book is one of the fruits nourished by the Luce Foundation grant (LIASE) directed by Dr. Jake Carbine. Among the Whittier students published are Natalie Fenaroli, Brianna Lyn Sahagian-Limas, and Trent Beauchamp-Sanchez. Among the faculty and staff published are Michelle Chihara, Denise Wong Velasco, and Tony Barnstone. California writers expected to attend and read include Chad Sweeney, Sandra Alcosser, Elena Karina Byrne, and Mark Irwin. Lunch will be provided.
